Choosing Joy : The Heartwarming Stories Of Our 2 Rescue Dogs

At Vintage Treasures 1955, our family is more than just humans. We are a family of animals, with each one having a unique story and a special place in our hearts. In today’s blog, I want to introduce you to our rescue dogs and share their incredible journey of survival and transformation.

Bruno, My Personal Angel on Earth

Boxer Bulldog

First, let me introduce you to Bruno. He is a boxer bulldog mix, and we got him from a low-funded shelter in a different state that had him posted on PetFinder. The shelter was kind enough to drive him up to Ohio for us, and we welcomed Bruno into our home when he was just five months old. However, it was evident that Bruno had a difficult past. He was severely underweight and had scars all over his face and paws. It broke our hearts to see him in such a state, but we were determined to give him a loving and safe home.

Over a year and a half, Bruno has transformed into an amazing dog. He is playful, loving, and has a goofy personality that brings so much joy to our family. But what makes Bruno special is his ability to sense when I’m having an anxiety attack, especially in public places. I registered him as my emotional support animal, and I truly believe he knows when I’m struggling, because he is always there to comfort me. He is more than just a pet; he is my companion and my source of strength.

Otis, Who Teaches us What Love is Daily Border Collie

Our second rescue dog is Otis, a border collie. We rescued him from Columbiana Humane Society a few towns over, his story broke our hearts. Otis was born into a hoarding situation, where over 46 dogs were neglected and living in poor conditions. He was starved, never socialized, and scared. When we first brought him home, he had numerous scars on his face, and he was missing patches of fur from having to fight for food.

Day I met him & took him home with me

Despite his rough start in life, Otis has come a long way. It took a lot of patience and love, but he has learned to trust and love us. He is now a happy and energetic dog who loves to play and cuddle. I was even able to train him to herd my chickens back into their coop in my small urban backyard. It’s incredible to have my very own working dog, and Otis takes his job very seriously. He keeps our chickens safe, and they have become best friends.

Our Core Beliefs As a Family

Working on his confidence

At Vintage Treasures 1955, we believe in giving animals a second chance at life. Both Bruno and Otis have overcome their past traumas and have become integral parts of our family. We are grateful to have them in our lives, and they have taught us the true meaning of unconditional love and resilience.

We hope that by sharing our rescue dog’s stories, we can inspire others to consider adopting a rescue animal. There are countless pets out there who need a loving home, and they have so much love to give in return. We also want to raise awareness about the importance of responsible pet ownership and the issue of animal neglect and abuse.

Our family is a little unconventional, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Our animals have brought so much love, joy, and companionship into our lives, and we couldn’t imagine our home without them. They are not just pets; they are family. Thank you for taking the time to get to know our furry family members, and we hope you enjoyed reading their stories. Stay tuned for more tales from Vintage Treasures 1955!
